Memory requirement most people don't understand

I think many people in the IT world will know what the memory requirement is. Actually what is the requirement for a system is considered enough? Let say, database software purchased require 256 MB of RAM. Is it mean you just need to install 256 MB RAM to the system so that it fulfill the software requirements? I think that is stupid decision.

Let take a look for a hard disk spaces requirement for that database. It may stated that it require 2 GB of free space. Does it mean you only need to purchase 2GB of hard disk? The answer is definitely “NO”. This is because you have to think of the other occurrences of software that will use that hard disk also. So the actual hard disk will take more than 2GB. Why? Windows it self is almost takes 2 GB of hard disk spaces. Other software such as Java (100 MB), Office (500 MB) and etc (1 GB). So the “concurrent” spaces require is about 5.6 GB. Add 20% for performance issue, the spaces you need for that system is roughly 6.5GB.

Now back to the memory case. We should consider the “concurrent” application that is running. Windows takes 128MB, Java takes 128MB and then the database takes 256MB. Total up would be 512 MB. So this is the way we calculate the total amount of RAM required for a system. Not blindly put the particular software requirement as a standard.

Java...

JAVA… Once has been classified to be a platforms independence mid-layer engine. Now the JAVA so called multi-platform has been narrowed down. SUN has cheated the software developers. As I know, java platform cannot run on “Console” or “DOS” (in Microsoft platform) Mode. It also cannot support the older Windows such as windows 3.11. It even has problems to run on Windows 95 and Windows 98 (not SE).

At first, many people said JAVA was very secure. But recently many viruses are come from java itself. But I most hate JAVA is SLOW… very slow… It takes a lot of memory. Not user friendly.

Need for Speed Most Wanted (4 Stars)

After complaints a lot to the EA Games, this time EA came out with more stable game engine. This time I haven’t experience any crash yet. The game engines also much faster and much better graphics experience than Need for Speed Underground, Need for Speed Underground 2 and CNC General.

Game is nice. I have been chased by many police petrol cars and smash everything. Oh… There also have helicopter too… So far I have one comment… When I was “spotted” by police, the police car is just like ghost. They can sudden appear everyway, but when the situation is “cold” the police is suddenly disappear. Strange, isn’t it?

Borland Developer Studio 2006 (codename "Dexter")

After long waiting (much longer than Visual Studio 2005), the latest development tool from Borland is start it "Preview" version. I am so wondering what it has improved after the last release of Borland C++ Builder 6.xx. I manage to get the preview edition from my friend. It consists of 4 CDs.

I would like to see a “waalaa” from Borland after they has been “rest” for so many years. I took the CD (Disk 1) and insert into my DVD-ROM. The screen appear and shown a lot of items there. I click on the “Borland Developer Studio 2006”. Oooops… What a disappointed. It prompts me to install “dotnet Framework 1.1” and “dotnet Framework SDK 1.1”. WHAT!! WHAT!! After so long user has been waiting… and they still adapted to dotnet 1.1?

I know the dotnet Framework is officially release just a month ago. But it has been in the BETA nearly 2 years already. If Borland put the “BETA” framework 2.0 to the preview of Borland Developer Studio 2006, what’s wrong is it? The dotnet Framework 1.1 has long working well in the Delphi 2005 and the C# Builder 2005. I don’t know why Borland is so left behind to Microsoft technology. If they think Microsoft technology is a burden, then they should leave that product already and continue to focus on their own “brand” which is C++ Builder.

I don’t know is this part of it marketing strategy or what, but I think that Borland is start losing it trust to all their users especially the DELPHI user.

Technology ?

Technology... Word that scare people away. What do you think technology is? People think that new technology is very troublesome. They need to take very long time to learn from it. People think that "technology" is kind of complicated process, which involve study like in the school or colleague time. But do we know, main purpose of technology is to reduce the human trouble, mistake and pain.

To me, there are 2 technology peoples groups. One of them is technology “users”, which they are benefited from the advancement of technology. Second type is technology "developers", which these people responsible in the technology advancement.

Technology “users” require no experience, on the other hand it need no skillful people. Why? Technology is some sort of the key to future. Without solving the technology puzzles, we will never moving forward. Like the most recent one is the bird flu. People will forever scare to eat chickens and ducks. But if the cure has been solved, do you think how many people interest get to know the process of curing this.

Technology “developers”, is the behind the scene worker. Some of them work for dreams and hobbies. Some of them work just for $$$... And some of them just work because of responsibility. Whatever they work for, they are responsible for human future.

So, it is up to you to decide which side you want to be. You can be a car mechanic or RND engineer or just driving a VTEC car. You can be developer or programmer or just a normal Windows and Office user which just using it. Make up your mind and decide which side you want to be.
